Pros:
- Increased revenue allows us to increase our revenue, or improve the returns for our craftsmen (to stay aligned with our focus on sustainability).
- Potential pipeline from ads to brand partnerships
- There are low barriers of entry, and an ad revenue model is pretty straightforward. Because it’s not incredibly novel, there are many successful incumbents whose steps we can follow.
Cons:
- Our target clientele of luxury brands / high-end markets are probably adverse to explicit advertising.
- It can also cause resistance/opposition from the craftsmen, who many want their crafts/works to get the attention and space they deserve.
- Users of the internet typically dislike recognizing that they are being advertised to
- This creates a dependence on third-party partners for revenue, instead of a consistent stream of dependable sources.
- We also may have to be pretty selective or cautious with what kind of advertising we put on our platform, keeping in mind the image of the crafts/luxury brands (just like what happen to Ethan Zuckerman with Ford on a male porn website)
