Target Audience
Our target audience consists of students who want to reduce or be more mindful of their impulse shopping habits. Students often have limited financial resources and are at a life stage where developing healthy spending habits can have long-term benefits. Their frequent exposure to targeted ads, peer influence, and the convenience of online shopping makes them particularly vulnerable to impulsive purchases. By focusing on this group, we aim to identify effective strategies that promote mindful spending and support their financial well-being.

Diary Study and Data Collection
Our diary study explores students’ impulse shopping habits by collecting detailed data on their daily activities and purchases. Participants will log daily purchases, noting why, where, with whom, and the cost, including all types of expenses such as food and Venmo payments. They will also review their browser history to identify shopping site visits and provide reflections on their thoughts, feelings, and specific actions related to their spending goals. At the end of the study, participants will share their overall feelings about their spending, allowing us to assess emotional patterns and behavioral insights.
Rather than a form, we plan to use a Google Doc format so that user’s can edit the diary at convenient times for them, whether that be throughout or at the end of the day. You can view our template and an example of our diary study.
