Rationale behing Personas

The personas I chose includes Ron the WFH, a corporate adult who works from home, and Hilda, a nurse who is diagnosed with ADHD. Both personas frequently experience skin picking daily but have different triggers, locations, and emotional journeys.

I wanted to focus on the WFH experience because based on all of our participants, skin picking mostly occurs when participants are at home, idle, bored, anxious, and/or alone. Work tends to produce anxiety, which in turn can escalate skin picking sessions. Prevention techniques are hard to employ during work so we focus on that theme in Ron’s persona.

For Hilda, she has an interesting emotional journey where she becomes pretty self-conscious at work where people perceive her differently viewing the scars on her skin. Because she also works in the medical industry as a nurse, people form strong assumptions around her own health. How does this affect her motivation to stop this behavior?

Key Insights from Journey Maps

  • Both personas have the most negative emotion (potentially longer skin picking sessions) in the middle of the day due to stress-related triggers like work or perception at work
  • Both personas tend to use more prevention techniques either in the beginning or at the end of the day
  • Ron has a consistent physical trigger: the bathroom mirror. He hasn’t attempted to remove this trigger from his routine. It is difficult to remove mirrors especially when one needs to use the bathroom regularly.
  • Hilda pairs her solutions with her ADHD meds and sees skin picking directly correlated to medication intake.
