Based off of this intro, I would describe product management as almost acting as a bridge between stakeholders, engineers and other potential contributors to these products. The author here stresses that PM’s need to know how to empower the people that they work with to have control over their respective domains, whilst also being able to steer and connect their work in a way that is cohesive and productive for all parties involved. This takes away the myth that product managers have to pick up work everywhere but rather tells us that product managers should be organized, in-tune, and efficient when working with all parties. If I could ask the author something I would ask him how the role of PM has changed over time across companies, and what different types of PM’s generally exist and how they can be categorized since my impression is that the role and responsibilities of being a PM can really range across different companies. I would ask for advice on how to gauge how a particular company may have there PM work based on publicly available information since I think this would be useful in the process of exploring PM roles.
