Behavioral Persona 1
Name of persona:
Jonathan S. |
Project
Veggies |
Team name/individual name
Team 9 / Andrea Liao |
Role: | Jonathan S. is a student at the University of Washington studying Computer Science and minoring in math! As a sophomore, he no longer lives on campus and commutes by bus (or, occasionally, car) in the morning on days he has classes. Therefore, Jonathan is no longer on a meal plan. He often cooks for himself, eats out, or gets food from his parents.
Goal | Jonathan wants to explore eating a greater variety of vegetables, because…
Motivation | … he is interested in expanding his palate.
Conflict | Jonathan can’t do it now because he is still a student and therefore has to balance school and extracurriculars and internships with all these other things. Something that stands in his way is the fact that he does not own a car, so his options are: walking to the grocery store, asking a roommate for a ride, or getting groceries/leftovers from his parents, who live across the bridge in Bellevue.
Attempts to Solve | Something that Jonathan is trying is eating out less, so that he is forced to get groceries and cook for himself.
Setting/ Environment | Where Jonathan is trying to solve the problem: his house, which he rents with half a dozen roommates in Seattle.
Tools | A “tool” that Jonathan is using to solve the problem is taking the bus or walking. He is also trying to eat out less (which has the added benefit of helping him work on his budgeting skills).
Skills | Jonathan’s knowledge and abilities include some family recipes (Chinese cuisine) and some classic American dishes (although the latter lacks vegetables).
Routines | One thing about Jonathan is that he does not have a set routine (a series of activities that happen often and without much variation); his eating schedule is all over the place.
Habits | An activity that Jonathan does unconsciously is eating healthier when he feels like he hasn’t eaten healthy in a while. |
Behavioral Persona 2
Name of persona:
Karsen W. |
Project
Veggies |
Team name/individual name
Team 9 / Andrea Liao |
Role: | Karsen W. is a student at Stanford! He lives on campus and is on a meal plan. Therefore, Karsen eats at the dining halls and on campus, mostly, and sometimes eats out at restaurants in the Bay Area.
Goal | Karsen wants to ideally eat more vegetables…
Motivation | …because he really liked eating salads at home!
Conflict | Karsen does not like dining hall food.
Attempts to Solve | Karsen tried to go vegetarian the week before I approached him! He also tries to eat more vegetables when he orders at restaurants.
Setting/ Environment | Where Jonathan is trying to solve the problem: @stanforddining
Tools | A “tool” that Karsen is using to solve the problem is taking the bus or walking. He is also trying to eat out less (which has the added benefit of helping him work on his budgeting skills).
Skills | Karsen’s knowledge and abilities are limited when it comes to cooking vegetables.
Routines | Karsen does not have a set routine when it comes to his meals.
Habits | Something that Karsen does unconsciously is eating more vegetables when they taste better, but less when they taste bad. |
brief description/explanation of above: Jonathan’s journey map and proto-persona are about a specific vegetable and the expansion of his palette, whereas Karsen’s are about his attempt to go vegetarian for a week as well as his dissatisfaction with Stanford dining halls.
