Assumption Testing

I was responsible for testing the assumption that luxury buyers care about the source of their luxury products. This was an important assumption to test, because our platform heavily relied upon partnerships with luxury goods. If luxury buyers did not significantly care about the source of their luxury goods, we would be wasting profits on our partnership efforts, and would not reach many people.

Our group sent out a Google Survey with different mock-ups for each assumption. For my assumption, I displayed two images, both of a luxury product on the website of a luxury brand. One image had no mention of the product’s source, whereas the second image had a label under the product, explaining that the product was made of fabrics from an Indigenous craftsmen. I asked individuals to choose which product they’d be more inclined to buy, and to give me their thoughts.

Out of 25 people surveyed, 23 chose that they would be more willing to buy the second product (the one with an Indigenous source clearly identified).

This assumption was important to test because we can now confidently proceed with our luxury partnerships, after confirming that luxury buyers do indeed care that their products are sourced from ethical artisans.
