The behavior that I’d like to change is not reading enough–I want to proactively take out more time of my day to read books.
I tracked this over a two day period between Monday and Tuesday (today).
Monday: I didn’t read during the morning because when I woke up at 11:30 AM, I had brunch plans at 12:30 PM. This left an awkward gap that didn’t give me time to allow me to be absorbed in my reading. After I came back from brunch, I made plans to go up to San Francisco to meet up with friends. During the one hour car ride to San Francisco, I didn’t want to read (my friend was driving!) because I wanted to just enjoy the scenery. By the time we were on our way back from San Francisco, it was too dark to read in the car. I got back to my apartment pretty late, and I had to wake up early the next day so I skipped reading at night as well.
Tuesday: I didn’t read in the morning because I wanted to start off my day with the hardest task, which was starting my CS coding assignment. I got really wrapped up in my debugging, and didn’t read for the early afternoon. I actually managed to squeeze in half an hour to read today when my boyfriend proactively dragged me outside and set a half hour time period for us to just sit down somewhere and read. At first, I was against this because I wanted to keep working on my assignment, but I also knew that I was unconsciously taking little “study breaks” by checking my phone/social media. Getting in around half an hour of reading felt good–this assignment gave me some good insight on proactively setting aside time in your day to read.
