Product Management in Practice

One of the best first chapters I have read for pm related books. The clarification of some common pm questions are concise and to-the-point. I especially like the analogy of comparing product manager as an “information broker.” Rather than just pass the information from one person to another, pm acts as the center of the information flow within the team who helps gather all voices from different agents, process them by identifying the most important questions, and share that back to the team so that the entire team is united to fight for this common goal.

One question I have after reading is: how to decide between long-term strategy and short-term result? Particularly in situations where the upper management demonstrates desires to pursue shorter-term gains but you the pm believes the move would hurt product’s longer-term future.
