In Chapter One of the book, the author writes that “these days, it seems like there are more working definitions of product management than there are actual product managers.” I agree with this because I believe the role of product manager is very specific to the needs of the company or the team. In some cases, the product manager may be doing more high level work, such as coming up with the product roadmap or ensuring that cross-team communication is happening as it should. On other cases, however, the product manager could be the person doing user need finding or working through all of the kinks of a PRD. In an ideal world, a product manager would be able to perform in either case to a high level.
A question I have for the author is: how has the role of a PM changed with the introduction of more AI tools into the workspace? Is product management a “stable” role, or do you believe that some of these new tools make it unstable?
