The most common internet business model is ad-based. For many reasons, this model generates a lot of revenue and makes it so that the company can subtly endorse their own content. However, how does this actually benefit the user with meaningful content? I notice that media platforms are becoming more and more saturated with pop-ups from other pages that the content itself becomes unappealing. The general purpose of the application should be to engage the user and make sure that their time on the app is fulfilling. Still, there are not many companies out there that make money reasonably and productively.
Pinterest is a company that operates on a revenue sources called investor story time. It is when someone “pays you to tell them how rich they’ll get when you finally put ads on your site.” The rich in this case is how much money they can potentially make by investing in an ad on that platform. Investor story time is not exactly advertising, but it is adjacent to advertising. The most important part of this is the persuasion aspect where you must convince the investors that their advertisement will be most valuable on your platform.
