Would you accept a job at Facebook?

I would not accept a job at Facebook. In regards to the question of “how close is the stink to my office”, I think that there are so many other high impact tech jobs that are, for lack of a better word, less stinky. Although there can be arguments made about how a single engineer at Facebook isn’t responsible for the whole company’s wrongdoings, I don’t think I would feel personally fulfilling from working at a company that has impacted the world in such negative ways. Furthermore, although working at Facebook may not be as outwardly exploitative as the examples mentioned in the readings, there is still an element of worker exploitation that I cannot personally ignore. The fact that engineers at Facebook at building a product that has so much power over society without any clear idea of how that impact might take shape feels deeply exploitative to me. Although there are clear elements of financial exploitation, I think that this exploitation of impact and responsibility is far more nefarious.
