“Would you accept a job at Facebook?”

I would accept a job at Facebook after reflecting on the question from “Working from Ethically Complicated Organizations,” “How seriously wrong do I believe the company’s actions are?” Since the ethical concern with Facebook lies in how it dominates the key functions of digital media companies and content thus being atomized and media companies struggling to retain control over their brand identity, to me it is not fundamentally wrong as was the case with experimenting on humans with the Harvard drug project. Accepting the job would afford me the ability to do right in other ways such as providing for myself and my family and obtaining a better and more ethical job down the line, as mentioned in “Working from Ethically Complicated Organizations.” Additionally, my job most likely would not contribute much to the unethical actions of Facebook; for example, as a product manager or software engineer, my work would not be closely related to the actual ethical implications of Facebook’s domination of distribution and curation.
