As someone who has never worked in Product Management before, I found the preface to be a valuable, candid view into the profession. Previously, I would have defined a PM to be someone who serves as a bridge between the product team and the stakeholders of said product. This reading adds more nuance to my understanding of the role, especially through the lens of the day-to-day tasks. Depending on the organization, I can see PMs as more of a plug-and-play role, filling gaps where necessary and serving as a lateral connector between and within teams.
I would ask the author:
How do you see the role of a PM evolving in the next 5-10 years?
What are some common pitfalls that new PMs fall into, and how can they be avoided?
