Assumption Map

Key Insights from the Assumption Mapping Step

Mapping our assumptions helped us see where the real risks are in our idea. We realized that general demand for language learning isn’t the problem, there’s already strong evidence that people want to learn languages through mobile apps.
Our biggest risks are around differentiation and behavior change. The most crucial assumptions are that young professionals actually want social accountability when learning, that our value proposition can compete with apps like Duolingo or Babbel, and that the market needs another language app at all. These are high-importance assumptions that we don’t yet have strong evidence for.
This exercise helped us shift our focus. Instead of asking, “Do people want to learn a language?” we now need to test, “Do young professionals want a socially accountable way to learn , and will they actually stick with it?”
Overall, the assumption map clarified what we need to validate next and where to focus our research efforts.
