Behavioral-Personas & Journey Maps – Armita Hosseini

Behavioral Persona

Emily is a health-motivated, time-constrained student who wants to spend more time being active outdoors. She recognizes the importance of it for her health and well-being, especially as she spends most of her day studying behind her desk. She also has a heavy courseload and professional commitments that mean she is often very stressed. She tries to integrate outdoor walks into her daily schedule as she knows it will make her feel much better, but often falls off of it without a concrete or recurring plan. When she does follow through, she realizes she is getting far less activity than she hoped or is needed for her well-being. She has high motivation and an orientation toward goal-setting, but hasn’t found the tools or support she needs to achieve her aims in this area of her life.

Journey Map

Emily’s journey map depicts her daily experience when she finishes a class or meeting and has a brief block of free time. She’s often very busy and doesn’t have big chunks of free time to devote to outdoor activity, but can take advantage of these short windows. Whenever she finds herself with this extra time, it’s hard to motivate herself to actually do outdoor activity, as she could use it to take a break or make progress on her to do list. However, every time she does decide to do activity, she comes back not only feeling more refreshed and calm, but also says to herself that she should make this a regular habit. However, without tracking or a structured habit for doing so, the activation energy required is often too high when she finds herself deciding in real-time. She needs a way to convert these spontaneous bursts of motivation into a structured, routine habit.
