I found myself spend more than 1 hour playing game Woodoku, and spend more than 2 hours browsing social website when felt depressed or nervous. Spending time on gaming and social media can help me mitigate my negative emotion temporally but I might felt more anxious and regretful afterwards. Therefore, I would like to change my behavior by decreasing the time spent on Woodoku and social media. I tracked my behavior, and pay attention to my behavior when I pick up my iphone. On a typical morning, I found the following pattern:
- 5:00 am wake up and check email/messages. After that I browsed reddit, wechat and weibo. I realized that I should not browse. But I still watched news for 10 minutes.
- During the busy morning, I almost forgot to check my iphone. But at 8:15 am, I realized that I need to find some handy information online, thus I opened my iphone. But I browsed reddit first. I did not stop until I finished reading all updated news/comments.
- At 10:35 am, I felt anxious again for the patient’s situation, and want to check my iphone again. But I played Woodoku for 20 minutes.
After spending time on those leisure activities irrelevant to my coursework or research, I felt more guilty and anxious and want to browse irrelevant news more. Thanks to this measuring opportunity, otherwise I did not realize how much time I have spent on social media and the cute game Woodoku.
