Ethical Jobs and Facebook

After reading “Working for Ethically Complicated Organizations”, I still don’t have a definite answer to whether I would accept a job offer at Facebook despite its data privacy concerns.

I certainly understand and agree on many of the main points of the reading including how a firm might not be seriously unethical compared to others or how your particular role might not be closely related to the unethical actions. However, I believe that if I have the ability to secure a job at Facebook, then I certainly do have the ability to secure offers from other similar tech companies and my final decision will never be based solely on how ethical a company is or how much more a company pays me at the beginning. In my opinion, whether or not to take a job offer at Facebook would be a decision that encompasses many different perspectives including future exit opportunities and social and community impact as well as a comparison of all the opportunities I have on hand. My decision and answer would thus be a decision that I need to make at that particular moment after considering all the factors and priorities while keeping in mind its unethical actions.
