Facebook has had many scandals that have shrouded the company in controversy, and it is nonetheless clear that the company has had some unethical practices and principles. Despite this, as referenced in 5.2 Working for Ethically Complicated Companies, the question remains “Who is responsible?”. Say for example, I am a software engineer working for facebook and there is a scandal around data privacy. Should as a singular employee feel responsible for something I am certain that I didn’t affect. No, I don’t believe I should feel guilty. There is some sort of distance that exists between a singular employee, expect maybe C-Suite, and the actions of a company. Therefore, despite any controversy around Facebook, I 100% would accept a job there for the career opportunities and the learning outcomes.
