Final Reflection

Final Reflection

Before I enrolled in this class, I had the misconception that when creating an app to change someone’s behavior the individual needed to adjust themselves to fit the app’s requirements, rather than the app adapting to their needs. However after completing the class, I discovered that the process is more focused on understanding the users needs and preferences, and testing the app with them to ensure it works effectively. Initially I was unaware of the extensive testing involved in app development. I assumed that developers created the app first and only then testedit with users. Now I have a beter understanding of the importance of evaluating aspects like behavior and assumptions during the development process and continuously refining the app based on feedback.

One aspect of the class I particularly enjoyed was creating mood boards and style tiles, as I have a keen interest in design and experimenting with different colors. Additionally, I found it enjoyable and engaging tocut out images from magazines to produce mood boards which provided a hands-on experience. This class has become my favorite because it allowed me to unleash my creativity and bring my app idea to fruition. Admittedly, I found the baseline study portion of the class less appealing, as it was somewhat tedious to sort numerous post-it notes and organize them into a chartt. Nonetheless, I recognize that this exercise taught us valuable information gleaned from our participants.

Some tecniques I would use again include mood boards, style tiles, and intervention studies, as they significantly contributed to shaping our app. All the methods and tools we employed were crucial in developing our final product and omitting them would have negatively impacted the app’s quality. For our specific project, we incorporated photos as a means to help users maintain focus and enhance productivity. While this approach can be beneficial it may also lead to complications for users who become overly reliant on the feature. We need to carefully consider both the positive and negative aspects of this concept.

This class emphasized the significance of testing with people before finalizing an app. The insights we gained from interviews and tests played a crucialrole in refining our final app. I now comprehend the importance of engaging with users and taking their opinions into account throughout the design process. Moving forward I plan to concentate more on communicating with users and conducting baseline studies to gather essential information for app development. This class has taught me that creating an app goes beyond design and coding; it also involves collaborating with users to ensure the app meets their needs. Although this class specifically focused on modifying behavior, I believe the knowledge I gained will be aplicable to any app project I undertake in the future

Overall, this class has been an eye-opening experience for me. I have learned so much about the app design process, from mood boards and style tiles to intervention studies and user testing. I now have a better understanding of how to make an app that not only looks good but also works well for its users. I’m grateful for the opportunity to have been a part of this class, and I’m excited to take what I’ve learned and apply it to my future app pojects. I also appreciate how the class emphasized the importance of considering the potential negative effects of an app’s features. For example, while our app aimed to increase productivity through photo reminders, we also needed to be aware of the possibility of users becoming overly reliant on these reminders. This thoughtful approach to app design showed me the value of taking a holistic perspective and considering all possible outcomes.

Another aspect of the class that I found valuable was the emphasis on collaboration and teamwork. Working with a group of peers to develop an app allowed us to bounce ideas off of each other and get feedback that helped us improve our product. It also taught me how to effectively communicate and work with others, an important skill in any field. Overall this class has given me a newfound appreciation for the complexity and depth of app design. I now understand that it’snot just about making something look pretty, but also about creating a functional and meaningful experience for users. I’m excited to continue exploring this field and applying the knowledge I’ve gained through this class in my future endeavors.
