Persona:

For my persona, I chose YY, a busy graduate student who is motivated to get more sunlight in order to increase her energy levels and mood. YY represents our busy, student target audience who is motivated to get more sunlight but has conflicting interests that keep them from sun exposure (schedule, other values, e.g., productivity).
YY lives in Chicago, so the weather is a huge blocker to her achieving her goal. She prioritizes productivity above all else and finds that she is most productive in dark, calm spaces. Even on a sunny afternoon, she may close her blinds to help her concentrate, since she finds the light distracting.
When we look at the journey map, we can note that there are instances when YY has access to sunlight (via windows) but deliberately avoids the sun. We can also note that in the morning YY is not optimizing her sun exposure; as she gets ready she is moving around in and out of sunny spaces in her home. The majority of YY’s day is spent on academics, whether that is in school or studying at home, which suggests that school is a major priority and habit interventions will have to use school as a motivator or be in alignment with that interest. For someone like YY, potential habit interventions include connecting sunlight to her productivity (e.g., being able to show that correct sun exposure would improve sleep and energy) and tying sunlight to activities with friends.
