For this assignment, I chose to measure the behavior of working out in the morning. I measured this behavior from Saturday morning to Tuesday morning, and recorded my behavior looking back at the day in the evening. From these four mornings, I worked out two of them; a barre class on Saturday and a yoga + ballet class on Tuesday. I found that while things like sleeping early the night before, having a class scheduled, and coordinating with friends to go to keep accountability helped, there were also things that compelled me to stay in bed, like the icky weather and rain in the morning, a holiday when all classes were cancelled and it felt justified to take a day off and sleeping in my friends’ dorms. These factors, and there interconnections and effects are represented in my two models: the connection circle and fishbone diagram, attached below. One surprising discovery is that even when I knew how good it would make me feel to go, I prioritized my comfort in the moment (staying in bed). Next time, I would go to bed early the night before, know exactly what to do (class scheduled, alarm set), and ask a friend to come with me to keep me accountable.
