We believe that: young people (esp. in rural areas) would want to watch a livestream concert/show
To verify that we will: ask college students, via a quick online survey, about their general sentiments towards a music livestream service. We will gauge how they engage with music currently and ask our interviewees their willingness to watch the artists through a livestream, and if they are willing, what kinds of artists they would be willing to see. We will also ask if they would be willing to pay for the service, as that is a whole another dimension of assumptions we are making. The starting framework for questions include:
-
Would you watch livestreamed music feeds or concerts online?
-
Would you pay for any livestreamed concerts or music streams?
- Do you prefer to listen to famous artists or do you prefer to find niche music that you enjoy? Please choose where do you stand on the spectrum
- only listens to famous artists
- mostly listen to famous artist, time to time explores new music
- indifferent/uninterested
- mostly listen to unknown artists
- only listen to unknown artists suggested by apps/friends
- If you are an artist, would you livestream your music if you made 85% of the revenue as a result of people paying for your streams?
We will measure: how open young college students are to the idea of livestreamed music concerts / shows
We are right if: there is proven interest and need that students in suburban areas are willing to pay for livestreamed shows of their favorite artists’ shows if the artists aren’t coming to their local area (bay area) to perform, or whatever else the barrier to live shows may be (e.g., financial reasons, fear of covid)

We believed that: young people (esp. in rural areas) would want to watch a livestream concert/show
We observed that: There is still a definite need and preference for live music and concerts. While the majority of interiewees and survey respondents responded positively to the question “Would you watch livestreamed music feeds or concerts online?”, several of them had follow up questions such as “is this being live streamed as the concert is happening?” “is this on the assumption that I can’t make the concert in person?” Thus, while there is interest expressed, we observed that there is definitely more needfinding to do surrounding this space and what our niche could truly be, especially as we work towards monetizing this service.
From that, we learned that: We shouldn’t necessarily try to replace live concerts, but appeal to a sector of customers who are 1) craving a more special experience than youtube videos / streaming music but simultaneously 2) don’t have access to in person concerts.
Therefore, we will: Work towards identifying a specific customer segment to focus on especially for our V1. We still believe in the need for the product and the value of the service we are launching for young folks who do not have access to in person music and wants to find community and are seeking experience. However, it’d be critical to segment our customers strategically to prove this niche to stakeholders.
