For my Quick persona 1 I described a proto-typical person giving a compliment. In our baseline study, we noticed that the primary behaviors were people in small, intimate social settings where there might be 2-3 familiar friends and 1 stranger, or a 1-on-1 setting where the compliment giver wants to get to know the compliment receiver better. From filling out the persona the primary pattern I noticed was the uncertainty about how a compliment might be received. This was the primary blocker preventing someone from giving a compliment, even to close friends. The motivation to give a compliment was the desire for the compliment receiver to feel as positive about the compliment topic as the compliment giver feels. However, the compliment giver is surrounded by uncertainty and has to rely on social inference, risk taking, and behavior analysis to determine whether or not to give the compliment and how to give the compliment.
When making the journey map, I noticed that the section “pain points” and the “goal” were the easiest to fill out and dictated the entire flow of the compliment. The end reaction could either be positive or negative, and the phases of “Decide” and “Give Compliment” were critical in determining what the reaction would be. My primary takeaway for the next phase of this project Is to alleviate the pain points of the process of giving a single compliment.
