Proto-Persona and Journey Map

After going through my interview for JL I found that they maintain a very busy schedule and and thus take every opportunity to either spend money to save time, socialize, or further their hobbies. Most of the smaller spending that adds up comes in the form of meals or snacks throughout the day. Since they often work throughout the day, finding time for their hobbies usually only comes during the weekend, so they will occasionally make purchases in preparation for these times in the future. Additionally, they primarily use a car for transportation and do so fairly often. Aside from the primary interview this persona was based on, many of these traits such as spending on food and using a car often were found in other interviewees and could be places to help our target audience save money. We could suggest cooking or spending on prepared meals while at the grocery store since these would both be less than eating out and reduce the likelihood of impulse spending on snacks.

Proto-Persona

  • Name:  JL
  • Activated Role: Overworked Student
  • Goal and motivation: I want to spend more time on hobbies and friends because I don’t often get to do so in my busy schedule
  • Conflict: Spending too much money elsewhere in order to free up more time in my schedule
  • Attempts to solve (and results): I have tried cooking food but it is often too hard and takes too much time. When I have low spending days, it often leads to binge spending days.
  • Setting(s) where do they try to solve problem: At home, during the weekends
  • Key Tools/skills: I have general budget categories but no specific details, I put money into a dedicated savings account, I often use my car to get around
  • Routines: I order breakfast for pickup on the way to work, I usually skip lunch since I am too busy during the day
  • Habits: Late-night snack cravings, small impulse purchases for games, doing puzzles while watching lecture
