I’m Nolawi Ayelework, and I’m part of Alpacas. We’re focusing on studying the social habits of students who are graduating and leaving campus this spring, and so we asked some of these students to track their social habits. For this assignment, I chose two students, FV and DJ, who are both seniors graduating and leaving campus this spring. My protopersonas and journey maps for these students focused on what their day looked like on average in terms of their social interactions.
First, we’ll look at FV. FV is a senior looking to go to law school, and with that in mind, he came into this year looking to make the most of his social experiences, with the understanding that living so close to his closest friends is not something that would happen again after this year.
Second, we’ll focus on DJ. DJ is a senior looking to go into the entertainment business, and similar to FV, DJ always saw this year as a last step in is college experience.
To conclude, the interesting thing to me about doing these personas and journey maps is the slight differences each of these people had. More specifically, both FV and DJ expected this year to be their last year, and looked to take advantage of that fact by focusing more on their social life. However, FV and DJ looked to do this in different ways. DJ looked to place himself in as many different communities, opening himself up as much possible to help him build connections with different parts of campus, especially in terms of making him closer to his black identity through living in Ujamaa and joining a black fraternity. However, for FV, it ended up being the opposite, where he looked for the most part to further the connections he already had with friends and make memories with them before the time was up.
