Proto-Personas and Journey Maps [Collin J]

Background

For this project, I based my proto-personas on my two interviewees and focused on what they found to be the most time consuming and enticing when using their phones. Since students have the easiest access to their phones at all times while also having high “stakes” in the matter (because they are attending university and want to stay focused on schoolwork), I studied participants who identified as wanting to reduce their own screen time to prioritize other activities AK and SL are both students but come from different perspectives regarding phone usage, with AK who often plays basketball and other sports in person and wants to spend more time on social activities, and SL who spends a majority of her screen time communicating with a long distance partner but wants to stop being distracted by notifications throughout the day.

The Journey Maps that I created follow the general structure of behavior, thoughts/feelings, and touchpoints/motivators. Each of these groupings has a corresponding graph point that shows their phone usage amount based on the circumstances. The quotes and touchpoints are taken from interviews and inferences from group discussions.
