Positives
I found working with Mindflow to be an interesting challenge – it was neat learning more about the ADHD and mental health market, and it was interesting discovering more about the dynamics within that market. I thought it was enlightening having the chance to apply some of the concepts we discussed in class in greater depth and to actually be able to conduct product scoping and marketing myself.
Negatives
It was challenging working with Mindflow’s initial model. I found that we had to redefine the product and the numbers we had, which made it a little more challenging than expected. It was a little hard creating the initial pitch deck because Mindflow was already losing 300,000/yr, which makes it a wildly unprofitable business, that coupled with the fact that the mental health wellness app space was losing customers each year caused a really challenging business to work with. Luckily, this was also a positive in that it taught me the value of pivoting, and transitioning after initial failures with a product.
Takeaways
I found it insightful learning about how to analyze markets, and also learning how to develop features and market toward a specific demographic. The whole process felt very startup-y, and it was definitely interesting learning about how to launch a new product from scratch than already iterating over an existing, very refined product that may be more expected of the work at a big tech company.
