(Severe) Clarity in Word Choice for Defining Screens during Onboarding
One of the problems that came up was the lack of clarity in a few of our onboarding pages. Our team had talked about these and understood them so we expected others to as well but this was shown to be a wrong assumption during testing. The two pages were for Goals and Block zones. For these pages, we are planning to reword the descriptions to include our working definitions which are that goals are alternative to scrolling and block zones which are areas in which the user wants to implement the time limits.
(Severe) Location privacy
Another problem was the lack of a popup notification to ensure that location sharing for the app was an opt in, so we will be sure to include a notification that asks the user if they want to share their location with the app.
(Severe) Location search bar
The current iteration of our app had a method of setting locations for block zones based on the current location that the user was in, but one problem that was shown was that it’s possible for the user to be setting locations that they are not currently at or near, so a search bar would be necessary which we will implement.
(Moderate) Fun fact reword and relocate
A more moderate problem that we found was that the fun fact on block zone page was missed, even though it was an important part of the rationale for why block zones are important. So, we decided that it should be reworded to more common language that people would easily understand and also relocated to top of page so people don’t miss it while going through the onboarding process.
(Moderate) Sharing page
We realized that at the end of the onboarding process, there was no way for the user to share the start of their new journey with people who would be interested and want to support them. Goal tracking needs to be done within a community, so we decided to create an easy way to share the app right after onboarding.
(Moderate) Unclear what the post-explore screen would be
The final portion of our intervention task wasn’t fully fleshed out, and there wasn’t a clear idea of where the user would go after deciding to explore a new location. So, we decided to create a fix by having the app close the social media application that you were on when you decide to explore a new location instead of continuing to scroll.
(Trivial) Calendar checks are confusing
A more trivial problem that came up from our checking personal statistics task was that there was confusion surrounding the check marks on the calendar. So, we decided to remove the checks and just allow the calendar to function as a way to go back in time and remember the progress that was made at that point in time.
