Our team worked on a clickable prototype for Sunflower, the social sunscreen habit application.
With Sunflower, you receive reminders from your friends to build your sunscreen wearing habits, and can build your own sunscreen habit by taking care of a virtual plant. Keep your friends accountable by monitoring their plants as well.

Usability Testing Script:
The instructions
Hey there! Today we’re going to be testing out a mobile app and I’ll be guiding you through the
process. The session should take about an hour. I’m going to ask you to think out loud as you use the app. That means saying what you’re looking at, what you’re trying to do, and what you’re thinking. This will really help us out a lot! Oh, and just to let you know, we’re testing the app, not you. So, don’t worry about making mistakes because there’s no right or wrong here. We want to hear your honest thoughts so we can improve the app. Don’t hold back, we can take it! Please sign this consent form so we have your permission to record.

The questions
Before we begin, we would like to ask you a couple of questions.
- First, are you a student or do you work full-time?
- Do you wear sunscreen and if so how often?
- Do you think putting on sunscreen daily is a good habit to have?
- Do you use widgets a lot and do you like using them?
- Do you have any favorite apps relating to forming habits?
The First Screen Tour
Thank you for answering those questions. Next, we will start to look at our app, Sunflower! First, we want you to open up the app. Take a look at our first screen and tell us what you think about it? Is it inviting to the eye? Does it make you want to see more of our app? What stands out to you? Take a few seconds staring at it and walk us through your thought process.
You can scroll but please do not tap on anything.

The Tasks
Thanks so much for your insights! Next, we are going to ask you to do some tasks on our app. We will be reading these tasks out loud.
- Please create an account and then login
- Next we want you to create your plant profile.
- The purpose of the plant is to represent if you are consistently putting on sunscreen or not. To keep your plant healthy make sure to log when you put on sunscreen. If not, your plant will die.
- Next, add / invite friends to your garden
- This task will allow you to add friends so they can send you notifications to put on sunscreen especially if they notice your plant dying
- Notify a friend to wear sunscreen.
- Go to the garden and switch from this view to list of friends
- The garden allows you to see all of your friends that are also on our app and also are trying to form the habit of putting on sunscreen
- Remove friends from the garden
- Lastly, go to your widget and check on your plant.
We will learn a lot from your actions as well as understand if our layout is easily understood. Also please try to think out loud because this will help us understand your thought process.
Follow up questions to ask after each task (Only ask if we think it is insightful)
- If you go back to this screen, what do you think this button does?
- How did you interpret this (phrase, picture, notification, etc.)?
- Was there anything confusing on this page?

Probing
Thanks so much for doing this; we really appreciate this. Do you mind if I quickly check in with the team to see if they have any further questions they want me to ask you? I’ll just be a minute.
Wrapping up
Thank you so much for participating in our usability test. Do you have any questions for us since we are done?
