Post-interview script
Moderator: Hi! Thanks for coming in again; we really appreciate your time and effort, especially for the diary study. While the previous interview was to gauge your view of AI in general, the purpose of this interview is to understand your experience of the study. As a reminder, your responses will only be shared with the study team and the teaching team of CS 247B, and none of the other members of the study team or teaching team except for me know your identity – so feel free to be honest.
Reflecting on the diary a study
- How did you feel about keeping a diary that tracks your AI usage for studies?
- Were there any challenges/surprises you encountered?
- How do you feel about your AI usage after the study?
Behavioral insights
- What patterns/trends have you learned about your AI usage?
- Did you notice any periods where your AI usage was particularly high or low? What factors influenced that? Workload, deadlines, type of class, stress, time pressure?
Influence of external factors
- Has there been any external influence on how you use AI?
- Did you notice any “triggers” for using AI – for example, opening your computer, etc?
Decision-making process
- I noticed that you _____ while ___ – can you walk me through your thought process?

Emotional experience
- How did your mood/emotions change before, during, after using AI?
- How did you feel when you submitted your work if it was largely influenced by using AI?
