Summary:

This project explored why Stanford students delay responding to small social tasks like text messages, finding that delays are driven more by emotional resistance and cognitive overload than by lack of time. Through research, testing, and iterative design, we developed Nudgi, a messaging app that uses lightweight social accountability and reminders to reduce response avoidance. Our findings showed that gentle nudges, playful design, and flexible user control can support behavior change while minimizing pressure. Overall, the project highlights the importance of designing for users’ emotional state, timing, and autonomy when creating behavior-driven digital interventions.
