Week 4 PSP: Three Value Propositions

Granola’s homepage promises to help people who want to spend more time on execution and less time on organization. This product targets “the doers” and busy people. Granola tries to stand out by emphasizing that it writes personalized meeting notes without a bot. Granola sells many of the elements in the functional pyramid tier including saving time, reducing effort, integration, and organization.

Otter promises to provide the same personalized and reliable experience of having a personal assistant that helps during and after meetings. Otter targets anyone with lots of meetings, with its homepage describing how the tool can be beneficial for sales, education, media, recruiting, and development. Otter tries to stand out by emphasizing that it is a conversational work agent that can answer questions by searching meeting transcripts and connected apps in addition to simply taking notes. In the pyramid, Otter sells quality, saving time, and simplifying in the functional tier.

Fireflies promises to make meetings easier through automation so that you do not even need to think about taking and sharing notes. It targets people who view note taking and simple meeting follow ups as wasted time. Fireflies distinguishes their product by emphasizing its ability to create actionable meetings through autodrafting follow up emails after meetings. Fireflies sells saving time, quality, and integration.

I would buy Granola, both because it is the one I have heard about the most and also because their marketing and website does a great job of telling a story and selling the idea that spending time on preparing for meetings and follow up is time that could be spent working on more valuable execution tasks. Comparing these three homepages made me realize how much I am influenced by how a company markets the problem they are solving for by emphasizing workflow transformation.
