Writeup: Measuring Me Take 2

The behavior that I wanted to change was my own sleep schedule and monitoring my own sleep. To measure, I specifically noted when I woke up and went to sleep each day. I measured my own activities over a three day span, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. Below is my activity (“…” indicates same as above):

 

Log:

Saturday (1/10):

11:30 A.M.: Wake Up

11:45 A.M: Shower

12:00 A.M.: Clean Room / Prepare for Friend to come over at 1 P.M.

12:30 A.M.: Friend comes over earlier than expected, begin hanging out

1:00 P.M.: Other friend comes over

3:30 P.M.: One friend leaves, watch an NFL game with my other friend

4:30 P.M.: Other friend leaves

4:45 P.M.: Watch another NFL game

7:45 P.M.: Play a game online with friends

10 P.M.: Stop playing game, go to sleep early

 

Sunday (1/11):

9:45: Wake Up

10:00: Clean Water Bottle

10:15: Watched 3 NFL games w/ others while taking food breaks in between games

8:00: Started hanging out with friends (mostly playing a game called jackbox)

10:30: Bed

 

Monday (1/12):

12 A.M.: Wake Up

12:15: Shower

12:30-1:15: YouTube

1:15-3: Work / Job Searching (and doing some final class searching)

3-5: Gaming

5-5:30: Dinner

5:30-8:30: Watching NFL Game

8:30-10:30: Gaming

10:30-12 PSet

12: Bed

 

Things I noticed:

While tracking my time (which I simply did through the notes app), and this also was similar to the first Measuring Me we did, I noticed that I definitely went to bed earlier than I usually did (as I typically go to sleep between 1 P.M. and 1:30 P.M.), but even with the earlier sleep time, my bed time and wake up time were extremely inconsistent. This is likely due to the NFL games that I watched (as I typically am not watching NFL games every day, but when they are on, I am usually pretty glued to the game), and there were games on all 3 days I was tracking for. In the future, it would likely be helpful to do this logging on days where I have classes / days where I don’t have a large quantity of time dedicated towards one activity (though even this can be challenging for me as for this quarter, all my classes are on Tuesdays and Thursdays only, which is unusual for me). Overall, I would say that this did not really change my sleep schedule at all unfortunately, but it did at least make me more cognizant of what I am doing each day and help me reflect on what I actually achieved each day.
