An Office Romance Gone Wrong: My Response

I agree with the expert that Elizabeth should explore other job opportunities. I strongly believe that working in a toxic environment can be detrimental to one’s mental and physical health, and it seems that Elizabeth is experiencing some of these negative impacts. Elizabeth already has an impressive resume and valuable work experience, so I have confidence she can land another role at a competitive company. By removing herself from the situation by transitioning to a different company, Elizabeth will be given a fresh start and can have the ability to show up to a workplace that does not cause her to feel unreasonably stressed or unhappy.

If I were a manager and found out about the situation, I would have tried to provide Elizabeth with more emotional support when I noticed she was struggling (for example, resources to connect with a therapist) and do my best to assist her through what is undoubtedly a tough time. I would also make an active effort to not put her in situations where she will have to interact with Claudia unless it is completely necessary. At the same time, I would stress to her the importance of being careful about workplace romances going forward. For Brad, I would request that he not display PDA at the workplace and that, going forward, he also notifies HR about any workplace romances he is involved in.
