An Office Romance Gone Wrong Response

I only partially agree with the expert. The management’s response to the situation implies protection for men in higher position of power. No matter how far the startup is able to go, this sentiment is likely to become core to the culture at this firm as long as the core management team isn’t replaced. Elizabeth can’t fix the culture overnight, and her performance is at risk, so this startup is not a good place to stay. However, I don’t think Elizabeth should quit her job before landing somewhere else. The longer it takes for another firm to recognize her ability and match the compensation package she deserves, the more her professional chops can get rusty and decrease her value.

If I was the manager, I would introduce a set of anti-fraternizing rules that are more gender and power-agnostic. I would also not let Claudia go on the business trip with Elizabeth, and in general have Brad and Claudia truly tone down their relationship. No C-suite execs should have the power to flaunt their relationship in office.
