Isolde works on Siiquent, a DNA-sequencing start-up targeting hospitals and diagnostic labs. Emmanuel targets labs and universities by selling materials and supplies needed for gene-based studies. While Isolde focuses on selling her materials at a cheaper cost, Emmanuel sells the research equipment at a much higher price.
A single revenue model can be preferred for its clarity, ease of use, and simplicity in operations. It allows for certain processes like budgeting to be conducted easily, and helps executives make clear decisions. However, it can often be inflexible to dynamic circumstances and conditions.
If the CEO wanted to merge the two divisions, I’d first arrange a meeting for the department heads to align on goals and make sure all visions are collaborative. Then, I’d take a look at current customer analytics (revenue, distribution, etc) and decide which priorities are most important. Finally, I’d make sure we have a roadmap and next steps planned out for a smooth merge/transition, setting checkpoints in advance to make sure we are aligned.
