The habit I tried to work on was sitting straight. I’ve always had bad posture which has lead to complications in my back which can in part be repaired by forcing myself to sit straight. I kept track of my posture by setting alarms for every 30 minutes over 2 days. When each alarm rang, I would note my posture and what might have caused a change in it. Things like stress and back pain typically worsen my posture which in turn worsens the pain and I’ve been trying to fix that this year. I also tried to note which activities worsened my posture the most and whether the time for which I’d been doing that activity impacted the magnitude of pain/bad posture.
As a result of this assignment, I think tracking my posture is actually beneficial to fixing the habit since the notification every 30 minutes forced my take note of my posture and check it no matter how stressed or in pain I was. When I’m hyper focused on work, especially on my laptop, the first thing that goes out the window is my posture since it takes active effort and awareness to remedy. This notification helped me do so without being at the forefront of my mind the whole time.
