The behavior that I wanted to observe was waking up at 7:30am. From Saturday to Monday, I put an alarm at 7:30am and measured how many times I would add snooze to my alarm. While doing this assignment, I focused on simply measuring what I did when the alarm rang, thus taking note of when I woke up.
One of the biggest challenges I faced was the initial struggle of adjusting to a new sleep schedule. The first few nights were difficult as my body was not used to going to bed at an earlier time, and it was hard to fall asleep. I also found myself feeling groggy and tired in the morning, which made it difficult to get out of bed.
I realized that the days that I had slept quite late the day before, I would not even be able to listen to my alarm. These were nights where I slept only for 4 hours. I also noticed that the days when my alarm went off and I did not have a specific task I had to do in the morning at 7:30, I could not wake up. When I drew out the connection circle it began to become quite evident of how everything was correlated. I realized that not only sleeping early was affecting my behaviour but also being motivated every morning to do something helped me wake up earlier, exercising, eating healthier the day before, my roommate being in the room or not (waking up earlier than me or not), having the sun hit my face, having classes in the early morning, being stressed etc. There were many factors that were affecting whether I would wake up early or not.
However, as the days went on, I noticed that my body began to adjust to the new schedule. I found myself feeling more energized and refreshed in the morning, and I was able to accomplish more tasks during the day. I also noticed that I was less tired and more productive in the afternoon and evening.
In addition, I realized the importance of maintaining consistency and the benefits of sticking to a routine. This experience made me aware of the power of discipline and the impact it can have on our productivity and overall well-being.
Overall, this experience taught me that changing our habits and behavior takes time and patience, but it is possible with consistency and determination. I am looking forward to continue working on this goal and make it a part of my daily routine.
