Project Brief: Edusphere Tutor Pivot
November 12, 2025 by Kevin Chen, Kristine Ma, Varsha Saravanan, Sarah Teaw, Maria Wang, and Alex Yansouni
Background
Edusphere, an EdTech platform facing a financial crisis with 14 months of cash remaining, is executing a strategic pivot away from its failing B2C (Business-to-Student) model. Despite providing high quality educational content, the platform suffers from a poor 2.5% free-to-premium conversion rate, as students use free, ad-supported videos but will not pay for subscriptions. Based on user research and data indicating that organizers (parents and tutors) are the actual paying customers, Edusphere is shifting to a B2B2C strategy targeting professional tutors, offering them valuable time-saving organizational tools with the premium content library included as a perk, thereby creating a more sustainable revenue stream.
Target Audience and Problem Statements
V1 Target Audience: The Independent Tutor
“Sometimes the way I learned it isn’t what the teacher wants… I have to bridge the gap.”
– Independent Tutor, 2025
- Tutors can spend up to 6–10 hours every week planning lessons, refreshing their knowledge, and coordinating resources to match their students’ progress and keep them on track with their school curricula. This heavy administrative load, combined with misaligned materials, pulls time and energy away from actual teaching.
- Tutors have expressed a need for streamlined workflows to manage resources and reduce admin work so they can allocate greater focus on teaching impact and improve student learning.
- Therefore we are pivoting to target tutors and their role in a student’s academic success. We are deprioritizing more complex customers, such as enterprises and school districts, to V3 and beyond so we can first focus on acquiring and engaging a loyal base of tutor clients.
Value Proposition
The EduSphere Tutor Toolkit is the first platform designed for professional tutors that integrates assignable content with workflow tools.
Unlike free tools that are disorganized, lack content, and lack administrative functions, our platform provides a single place for tutors to organize content by student, assign work, and track progress, saving them hours of admin work and proving their value to paying parents.
