On the Team
Overall, I am quite content in how my team has collaborated over these past six weeks on the project itself and the pitch presentation. From the very start, there was strong interest in the group to pursue a product in the real estate market. That interest has translated to a strong direction in streamlining the renting process, as we have had personal experiences in working with the renting process and ideas to optimize it.
I strongly appreciate the level of communication in my group. Everyone is pretty good at communicating, allowing us to sort out tasks and finish assignments with ease. I don’t have any qualms about the way we work, and I think that the quality of our presentation reflects that. I have been in plenty of other project groups before, but this team is one of the most directed and time-efficient teams I’ve been in.
The Project
In relation to the project itself, I think it has been an interesting topic. I haven’t worked with real estate or had any interest in it until now. I think that it was particularly helpful that members in my team had experiences with it and a good amount of knowledge about it. I was a big proponent in pivoting towards the renters’ market, as that was the most intuitive to me. I didn’t know too much about the process of buying and selling homes, but as an undergraduate student, I was much more involved and proximal to renting.
The idea of working on maintenance and the renters’ market is pretty intuitive. From my understanding, most apartment complexes have their connections. But there is always a good amount of people who seek to break into managing real estate, oftentimes people with disposable income. For the growing number of independent landlords, it makes sense that besides just purchasing the property, maintaining it is completely different. This could easily be something for AirBnB or elderly people who seek to make passive income by renting out their rooms.
Besides the maintenance management, I was interested in somehow incorporating subleasing into the pitch. It’s something that I’ve been interested in for housing, and I’ve known people who have struggled to find housing and people who have struggled in looking for someone to take over their lease for a few months on holiday or break. However, this idea was filtered out when we were looking into focusing on one particular topic.
Closing Thoughts
In any case, I’m content with how the project has been so far. The topic is interesting and the team is great. I think that we will continue to work and flesh out our ideas. I’m excited to see what we will produce by the end of the class.
