PSP3: Taking Apart a Pitch Deck

For my pitch deck, I chose to analyze the Tinder slides.

One thing that I noticed immediately is how the pitch deck presents the problem, its evidence, and the market size. The second slide in the deck (seen below) features a photo of a man at a party, who’s introduced to us as Matt. Without directly stating market evidence or size, we can imagine Matt representing any number of people. I think this is a bit of a novel way to go about presenting your product and opens up the floor for them to quickly put us in their consumer’s seat and see how they can help.

That being said, the pitch deck includes no numbers, demographics, or statistics with the exception of one purchase price on the last slide ($1 for each new match after the first 2, seen below). If I were an investor, I would certainly want to know the TAM, SOM, SAM, as well as other in-app purchase prices & expected monetization. Clearly, this company was wildly successful, but I would struggle to feel confident in the product and market without more detailed information being provided.

If I were to steal anything from this pitch deck, it would be the attention-grabbing problem scenario to immerse the audience in the walkthrough of user pain points in the existing system.
