Despite the clear ethical concerns surrounding Facebook, I would still accept a job due to the key values that it meets under certain conditions.
First, I believe that depending on what specifically I am working on, it can be very meaningful and impactful. At a large company like Facebook that reaches millions of people everyday, the work I do can have the potential to better the lives of many others. If I am allowed to pursue a project that I am passionate about and that is ethical, I believe that working at Facebook would give me the unique opportunity to develop something that will actually be used by people everyday.
Second, I believe that a job at Facebook would allow me to have leisure time which is very important to me. Personally, I have always prioritized having a healthy work-life balance and having a clear division between work and pursuing other interests. I believe that a job at Facebook will allow me to have the freedom to and comfortability to find new hobbies and interests in my leisure time.
Finally, I agree with the article that it is acceptable to work at a company with unethical values if my work is not close to the unethical operations. Although it does not change the fact that I am working for a company that has unethical practices towards its users and the general public and that is something I must accept, I would still accept the job if my specific role is still aimed at helping people and the user experience.
