READING: Product Management in Practice

The reading helped me learn that a product manager’s job is more like organizing chaos than anything else. It really is a job that requires comfort with ambiguity, a strong willingness to see things through, and an understanding of how to work with others. It requires humility and comfort with being wrong and having less direct impact in order to avoid being a Bad Product Manager (TM). Ultimately, of course, the product manager must be a strong communicator in order to unravel any threads of conflicts and avoid getting wires (threads) crossed. All while managing people and the product and deadlines and meetings.

In terms of questions I have for the author, I wonder how, other than through job experience, to get better at product management? And how should we mitigate the chances of being a Bad Product Manager (TM)? Who should we turn to for mentorship and guidance in an environment that might not provide it?
