When I first learned about PM-ing, I first heard it from a friend who was a PM intern. My immediate thought was “how can someone who has just entered a workforce be a good manager?” I entered this class with the intentions of being a PM post graduation to find out. Throughout the last 10 weeks, I learned a lot about the skills necessarily for a PM and what roles they play. It turns out, there really is not just one answer. PMs to me, seem like the grease in a clog. It keeps things moving and runs across all facets of a team. Working in all four roles, I learned a lot about communication and how to be more empathetic towards each role in terms of timelines and ability. The discussions with PMs in industry taught me a lot about how PM-ing While 147 taught me a significant portion of my foundational UI/UX skills, this classes allowed me to focus more on understanding the business and marketing models of the whole operation. It made me think more about solving a challenge and identifying the target audience after, rather finding the problem for a target audience. My main focus through out the project was being a PM and designer. I created the the UI for our application and performed the UX research for the project during my time as designer. During my time as a PM, I focused on identify the market and finding different competitors, In addition, I helped the engineer with finding existing technologies for creating the proof of concept. If we had more time, I would love to further develop the UI and perform UX research on the platform. Further narrowing down our pricing and developing a business side model would have also been ideal given our current financial ambiguity.
