Airbnb’s pitch deck is overall super solid. They show the problem very clearly by having the second slide after the intro slide be the problem and having three main bullet points for what the issues are: price hotels being disconnected from the area price hotels being disconnected from the area, and the fact that there is no way to easily rent out a room or book a room in someone’s home. This is further explored by showing that there’s a lot of demand for those three things, by showing Couchsurfing.com and Craigslist as examples of marketplaces that are being used as a proxy for this right now. This is further explored by showing that there’s a lot of demand for those three things, by showing Catchsurfing.com and Craigslist as examples of marketplaces that are being used as a proxy for this right now. I feel like the market slide is slightly worse just because their SOM is just a percentage of the TAM with the words “Airbnb trips”, which doesn’t really show who they’re targeting as their initial audience or offer any insight on how they plan to obtain them. However, the following slides offer more on the second point, explaining that they want to target concerts and festivals and other events etc. I think an investor might be curious about what their money will be used for. Also, even though this is an early pitch, I’d be curious to see some kind of slide talking about where they are currently. Right now, just off of these slides, I can’t tell if this is a startup that already has a bunch of users or hasn’t launched yet. I don’t really know the status. I think one thing we can probably take from this is just making sure that each slide is specific to one thing, so we are not cramming multiple ideas into one slide.
