Pros:

  1. Easy to attract investors: A lot of business’s business model is investors story time. Investor story time is when someone pays you to tell them how rich they’ll get when you finally put ads on your site. This is a lot of persuasion that the investors like to believe in
  2. Passive income: We ourselves do not have to do much to generate income from users seeing the ads. All we need to do is just have them displayed on website
  3. Targeted products: From users that actually need tailored

Cons:

  1. Loss of credibility: Because web pages filled with a lot of ads, especially pop-up ads, are considered sketchy by most users, and we want our users to believe that our translations are accurate and true. Thus, we having advertisement may lead to a loss of users
  2. Potential surveillance: As article writes, “it’s hard to imagine online advertising without surveillance,” as the primarily use of ads is to understand who is looking. Given that our users are inputting sensitive contractual information, we may lose users who are afraid of their documents leaking.
  3. Time costing: Some advertisement come in video watching types. Since a large part of our product is to save people time in reading document, we shouldn’t add media ads that in turn cost people’s time.
