Overall, there’re advantages to using advertising on an application and the internet. It’s stable and consistent—you know what you’re going to get every month, and you don’t have to worry about whether the company will shut down or change its business model. Advertising could be used to generate revenue from users who would not normally pay for an app. This is especially helpful for apps with premium features, as it allows us to charge for those features without having to convince our users to pay for them. We could use advertisements to share many helpful tools and products with the parents of autistic children, which could help with the learning and education materials for the child development phases.
However, since we are building an app related to medical care, we are probably not the best venue for using an advertising model. We are not able to sell our autism therapy data to adtech companies to create customized ads for our users, which would lead to a decrease in the production and the success rate of the advertisements. Following an advertisement model will probably severely damage the reputation of our product, and patients will be concerned about to what extent we break our HIPAA requirements and the privacy of our users.
