Even though Granola, Otter, and Fireflies all use AI to take meeting notes, their homepages focus on different values.
Granola calls itself “The AI notepad for back-to-back meetings.” It targets busy professionals, especially PMs who attend meetings all day. Instead of emphasizing AI features, Granola promises a more natural note-taking experience without a meeting bot. On the Elements of Value pyramid, I see saves time, reduces effort, and reduces anxiety. Its biggest differentiator is simplicity.
Otter promises “Meeting AI that turns talk into action.” Its homepage highlights transcription, live coaching, pre-call briefs, and automatic follow-ups. It seems designed for a broad range of professionals who want meetings to lead to actual outcomes. Its value elements include organizes, saves time, and provides information. Compared with Granola, Otter focuses more on productivity throughout the meeting process.
Fireflies positions itself as an AI notetaker that turns conversations into searchable notes, action items, and summaries. Features like AI apps, templates, and insights make it feel more like a meeting intelligence platform. Its main value elements are integrates, provides information, and organizes. It appeals to teams managing large amounts of meeting information.
Personally, I would choose Granola because I prefer something simple that doesn’t interrupt meetings. However, I’ve noticed that many people around me use Otter, and what’s interesting is that they come from very different backgrounds and professions. I’m not exactly sure why Otter seems so popular, but I think its broad range of features might appeal to different types of users.
This comparison makes me realize that a strong value proposition can either focus on solving one specific problem really well or offer enough flexibility to attract a wider audience. For my own value proposition, I would lean toward simplicity and a clear user need.
