Mindset
The thought of working at a big tech company can feel prestigious. It adds credibility to your name and helps with your next job or connections. But if someone devotes everything just to get there, I believe anyone from Stanford could get there too.
Thought
The reading reminded me to look at this from every angle: where you are in life, how much stability you have, and what you want for your career. If the wrongdoing is not severe, maybe the question is not whether you should join but what you could do once you are inside the company.
Convinced
I think a Meta job after graduation could contribute to my personal growth and to the knowledge I gain along the way. I would want to approach a Meta job with an open mind and avoid being in a chamber that idolizes Zuck. As we are in this moment, it is not that you could stop what is going on or shut down Meta, given that there are many things that Meta has done negatively, including data breaches and the spread of misinformation. Wherever you are, working at Meta could be a chance to influence positive change, to spark those conversations, and to contribute as humans to doing the right things with the goal of that mindset reaching decision makers. There is something exhilarating about that idea, not just being part of the machine but being the one who gets to ask the hard questions in the room and contribute positively.
Lastly
Maybe that is what would make it worth it: not the badge, but the feeling that your work might turn the dial, even just a little.
