Whether to work at Facebook definitely raises ethical questions, but in many ways the core issue reflects a broader reality of the internet age: just as people have had to learn to personally navigate substances like alcohol and nicotine, individuals today must learn to balance access to information and the addictive pull of digital platforms. Facebook undeniably amplifies challenges around attention, privacy, and screen dependency because they try to pull you in as much as possible, but it is ultimately part of a larger ecosystem in which responsibility is shared—companies must strive to mitigate harm, but individuals also bear agency in how they consume and moderate their own use. I think because of my opinion on this, my personal ethical balance would allow me to work there.
